Rural Concerns Task Force

The Rural Task Force addresses the diverse needs of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in remote, rural Montana. A large geographic area and a small population create unique problems for victims of violence, and anyone who is interested in working with this group on issues relevant to providing and accessing services in Montana's rural areas is welcome.

Current Projects
The Rural Concerns Task Force has set a number of goals to work on in 2004 and 2005:

Members would like aid in the development of two manuals: A manual for advocate training specific to rural concerns and challenges; and a manual containing model shelter policies. The first could be put on a CD-ROM and distributed to advocates around the state.

Members would like to foster judicial and prosecution training on domestic violence and to encourage judges and county prosecutors to hold batterers accountable in Montana's courtrooms by recognizing those judges and prosecutors who do.

Members would like to host a legal issues training with the Montana Legal Services Association.

Task Force members intend to work closely with the MCADSV Public Policy Specialist to provide input on the Coalition's legislative agenda and work closely with their elected representatives.

Task Force members would also like to develop resources for transportation.

Meeting Schedule
The Rural Concerns Task Force meets during every MCADSV member meeting, and holds quarterly conference calls.

How to Get Involved
Again, the Rural Concerns Task Force is open to anyone who is interested in the things that members are working on. To find out more or to get involved, contact Christine Mandiloff, Task Force Chair, or Kelsen, MCADSV staff liaison. *When sending an email, put "Rural Task Force" in the subject line.*
