Montana's Congressional DelegationMontana currently has three members in its congressional delegation: two Senators and one Congressman. They really are interested in hearing from you on issues relating to federal legislation. To make your communication with their offices more effective, however, make sure to have your facts before you call: know what legislation you're referring to, what committee it's in, and what kind of action you'd like the Senator or Congressman to undertake. If you are responding to an Action Alert from the Montana Coalition or the NNEDV, you should receive that information. If you do not, please ask. In these days of Internet petitions and coordinated e-mail barrages to policymakers, activists sometimes question whether their input gets lost. Registering your opinion is important, so if your choice is joining an Internet petition or doing nothing, sign on to the petition. But, the personal touch is always the best: phone their office, talk to the staff person working on the issue you're calling about, and ask about the best way of following up with the Senator or Congressman: e-mail, faxed letter, or meeting. (Because of concerns about domestic terrorism, regular mail to the House and Senate Office Buildings is extremely slow. So, ask what the best alternative is.)
